Triomphant Tchoulang, the designer of the thermal photo refrigerator in Cameroon
(Ecofin Agency) - He was still a student at the Polytechnic School of Maroua in Cameroon when Triomphant Tchoulang designed the photothermal solar refrigerator. The idea came to him from a desire to provide support for access to energy for health centers in remote areas of Cameroon.
Renewable energy engineer, Triomphant Tchoulang was 25 years old when he designed a photothermal solar refrigerator which would later earn him many distinctions in Cameroon and internationally.
"There are more than 650 million people who do not have and will not have electricity in sub-Saharan Africa if nothing is done until 2030", he says, from which its commitment to developing the solar potential of which African countries abound.
After his studies at the Polytechnic School of Maroua, he founded his company Clean Energy Services, which offers innovative solutions to address Africa's energy problems.
“Africa is the continent that has all the potential to be exploited in terms of renewable energies,” says the young photovoltaic and thermal specialist. "Given the limits of nuclear energy and the challenges linked to climate change, our continent presents itself as the engine of the energy transition in the world" analyzes the promoter of the start-up Clean Energy Services who considers that "African companies must actively take part in this transition phase through innovation to bring social impact.”

The thermal photo fridge he invented in 2019 uses thermal energy from the sun and light energy to maintain an appropriate temperature for the preservation of food products (8 to 12 C°) and pharmaceutical products (-5 to -0°C).
He had the idea for this creation after a visit to a health center in the far north of Cameroon: “There were patients who were lying outside. There was no electricity, all the vaccines were out of order because they had been badly stored due to a lack of power. This situation shocked me and I said to myself that something had to be done with these 45° in the shade,” confides the young engineer.
In November 2019, this creation earned him the Coup de Coeur Prize of the EDF Pulse Africa competition, which each year rewards innovation in the field of energy.
Activist through his company in the popularization of renewable energies in Africa, Triomphant Tchoulang takes part in the Africa-France Summit this October 8 in Monpellier in France.Youssouf Sériba.
