COP26: China and the United States want to turn more to renewable energies
COP26 today begins its second week of negotiations. We will have to find an agreement by the weekend or the next weekend. In these talks, two actors play a major role: China and the United States.
China and the United States represent two more than 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions
The two countries display ambitions but are today very dependent on fossil fuels and are therefore two big polluters. For the USA, after the Trump presidency, Joe Biden puts a lot on his great investment plan devoted in particular to the energy transition which could be voted in the coming weeks.Francis Perrin, Director of Research at IRIS, the Institute of International and Strategic Relations: “This would be an important step to finance for example the development of electric vehicles, the construction of charging station or even encourage companies to go inthe sense of energy transition. We are talking about energy and climate spending that can represent $ 500 billion but we must first wait for the vote of the American Parliament ".

China has embarked on the international scene with carbon neutrality in 2060
China, it remains very dependent on coal which still represents 65% of its electric mix.The Chinese have even revived power plants in recent weeks to meet energy demand even though the country has embarked on the international scene with carbon neutrality in 2060.According to Cédric Philibert, energy specialist, former of the International Energy Agency: “The long-term trend is to go towards a lot of renewable and China is not to be out of this point of view-the ".
