Report with the Moso, one of the last matrilineal companies
In the shade of the foothills of Himalayas, near Lugu lake, on the border of the provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, lives the Moso people.A matrilineal and matrilocal company, one of the last known to date.Children are attached to the maternal parental group, which raises them, transmits them name and traditions.Women are at the center of this complex society and do not leave their families. They practice a form of "free marriage": women choose their partners and change as they please.
This former society with so "modern" values is demanding.Tourists flock to observe them and anthropologists to study them, while the Chinese government sees them as a lucrative community.
In the midst of these various and omnipresent interests, there are the women themselves.Sagaces and strong, their silence and their dignity are the weapons they use against cultural erosion which they have faced since the Communist Revolution carried by the Red Army in 1979.But over the past twenty years, community stability has grown gradually.
