Lenovo presents its new IdeaPad and three screens
Lenovo has just introduced a new range of devices aimed at what the brand calls “hybrid working”. Here's a little overview.
IdeaPad 5i Chromebook
The IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is a small laptop running ChromeOS. Space-saving, it is designed for entertainment and basic school work. Equipped with an 11th generation Intel Core i5 and a 512 GB SSD, it is not a racing beast but an all-purpose utility. Bonus point for this use: the autonomy, announced at 10 hours, should allow you to take notes at university without being put under pressure by the battery. Bonus point for last-minute writing in the middle of the night: the backlit keyboard, always good to take.
At the screen level, it is adorned with a 14” IPS touch panel, capable of providing 300 nits of brightness. Connectivity level, the 5i benefits from Wi-Fi 6, a jack, a USB 3.1 Type-A port and two USB 3.1 Type-C ports.
It will be available from July, at a price of 559€.
IdeaPad Flex 5i
The other computer in the lineup, the IdeaPad Flex 5i, is a PC-tablet convertible with its 360° hinge. The screen is obviously tactile, and the manufacturer speaks of a 13.3-inch Full HD IPS LCD panel, with 400 nits of brightness. Note that it will be possible to opt for an optional OLED panel, for a rendering certainly well beyond the LCD version. It will also be offered with a stylus, the Digital Pen.
For the rest, everything is similar to its conventional counterpart: ten hours of autonomy announced, an 11th generation i5, a 512 GB SSD and 8 GB of LPDDR4 Ram. All condensed into just 1.35kg, making it a real featherweight.
It will be available from July, at a price of 559€.
The Lenovo L32p-30 is a 31.5-inch 4K IPS display, with HDR10 and 90% DCI-P3 coverage. It has impressive connectivity, HDMI 2.0 port, DisplayPort 1.2, USB Type-C and four USB-A 3.2 ports. Rather elegant, we notice the virtual absence of the side and upper edges. FreeSync compatible, it offers a response time down to 4ms. A beautiful screen that does not stand out in any way, but seems particularly versatile; at €479, it could be a bargain when it comes out in October.
Then comes its “little brother”, the Lenovo L27m-30. No 4K for this 27-inch version, but Full HD for its IPS panel. Capable of spitting out 75fps with a 4ms response time, it should be fine for casual gamers or those who just want a versatile display. At €299, it could attract a good number of customers as soon as it is released in September.
Lenovo L15 and Lenovo LC50 Webcam Monitor
Let's finish with the youngest of the bunch, the Lenovo L15. This portable 15.6-inch USB-C plug-in monitor features an anti-reflective IPS screen, but with only 250 nits of brightness. In view of the (meager) technical details, it really seems intended to be used as an extra screen and should suffer in terms of color or response time. We will therefore have to wait for its release next September to find out if it is worth the €229 requested.
Finally, the latest addition to this range is a device, the Lenovo LC50 Webcam Monitor. It is a magnetically attached USB webcam, capable of providing 30 frames per second in 1080p and equipped with a 4x digital zoom. Nothing really innovative at this level. It will be available in September for 99€.
