"I film the job that I like": an original educational competition for young people
It is an original national competition, with which the Centre-Val de Loire region has been associated for three years now. It makes it possible to promote trades, and above all to introduce them to young people, by allowing them to film them in a 3-minute video, supervised by animators and teachers.
"I film the job that I like". The title alone sums up the ambition of this project, launched fifteen years ago by Anne and Éric Fournier, founders of Euro France Médias, under the high patronage of the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Integration.
Its goal ? To discover trades through a 3-minute video filmed by young people themselves, school or in integration, supervised by teachers or animators, to stage a trade that interests them. The competition ends with a prize giving, which will take place in May 2022 at the Grand Rex in Paris, by a jury composed of many celebrities and chaired by Dany Boon.
A unique experience that allows young people to discover their talents and skills
It is a real work of creation that young people find themselves confronted with. You have to imagine a scenario, carry out an investigation, shoot the images, record the sound and choose the editing. So many steps taken by young people.
This allows them to discover unsuspected resources, hidden talents and new skills at home. Without forgetting the possible rewards, since the competition includes, only at the regional level, three categories: the best represented trade, the best achievement, without forgetting the special public prize.
Each year, seven teams of young people from the region involved in the competition are declared regional winners.
The Centre-Val de Loire region involved in this project
For three years, the Region has participated in this operation in order to promote trades while helping young people in their orientation. Jean-Patrick Gille, Vice-President for training and guidance, explains why. "It is part of the orientation process, you know that the region is now responsible for information on school orientations and all audiences".
An approach that is beginning to be emulated by establishments that welcome young people. Last year, 250 participants completed the project and presented their videos, produced under the responsibility of teachers or facilitators from their establishment.
Matthieu Vallée, who supervises this project in the region, explains to us that "this year, around thirty establishments will compete at least. Last year, around forty had declared their intention, but in the end, because of the Covid, we did not have had only about twenty films completed, not all the projects could be completed".
As soon as registrations close on January 17, 2022, the teams have until the end of March to complete their work. Then, the regional jury will watch all the films. If all goes as Matthieu Vallée hopes, the awards ceremony should take place for the first time in the Regional Council's hemicycle on May 20. "We will try to make this award ceremony an event, of course taking into account the evolution of the epidemic on this date".
The Region distinguished itself for the 2021 edition by winning two national prizes
The BTP CFA du Loir-et-Cher in Blois has embarked on the adventure for the first time. Brilliantly, since the two teams involved took the first two national places, winning the Clap d'Or and d'Argent, after also winning regional awards.
It is a teacher of PSE (Prevention Health Environment) Anaïs Gunther, who supervised the two groups, one of apprentices in ironwork, the other in carpentry. Everyone embarked on the adventure without any experience, but with success. Today, Anaïs tells us that this period has been rewarding for everyone.
Especially since the two groups won in addition to national titles, three regional titles, "For a first participation, with two groups, it was still not bad" she admits with a burst of laughter. "I didn't know the competition at all before, I was alone at the initiative of the project, and afterwards, it was the apprentices who did all the work. These are groups that already have one or two CAPs in their pockets. , see a BP, and that also allowed us to do something else in progress".
In fact, each group chose the trade for which they worked in training. “We started from the shared observation that when you are young, the idea of becoming an ironworker or carpenter does not necessarily come to mind and we wanted to share these trades to make them better known”.
For this, the young people did not hesitate to roll up their sleeves. "I know that carpenters, for example, worked a lot in their free time, in class and in the workshops where they filmed. Regarding computer skills, editing videos, it's true that it's not part of their training course, so it was enriching for them. For the ironworkers, I was the one who was editing, we created everything together during the lessons, and that allowed for a very good cohesion".
A great experience, of which they keep very good memories. "In addition, they did not expect to be rewarded, because we did it with the means at hand, we were not really equipped, and they were very surprised with the result". Thanks to their regional victory, the establishment will be able to have a camera and equipment. Since it is the prize awarded by the Region to the winners.
This year, a group of ironworkers was ready to embark on the adventure, but the Covid-19 caused a lot of delay, and Anaïs is not sure of being able to complete the project.
The winners have chosen to leave their victorious claps in a special showcase, which will certainly be installed in the foyer, to remind everyone of the interest shown in the work they have done and to encourage vocations in future generations. Anaïs Gunther received an email from young apprentices who had participated in the project. They are no longer there now, but one or two have decided to reorient themselves at the end of this work, after having discovered new skills in themselves, in computer work, project management. One of them is reorienting himself on animation and has started a reconversion.
A very rewarding experience that united the group
Émilien Lemoine is one of those who participated, and brilliantly won the gold clap at the national level. Currently in his second year of CAP, he has a rather atypical career: science baccalaureate, two years of preparation, and four years of business school. "The way of learning there didn't really suit me, I didn't have enough motivation to be able to diligently follow my course and the internships I did didn't help me a lot, and so I I decided to leave to do a CAP in two years, and after that I will try to resume my studies in the school I left because there is a learning path that would help me a lot".
Helped by the girlfriend of one of them, who specializes in editing, they built their script.
Three minutes, the time allowed for videos in the contest, is both long and short. Short to tell things, long to manufacture. "You have to shoot a lot of shots, you have to structure the voice-over, it's still a lot of work, and the presence of Axel's girlfriend helped us a lot".
The emulation around the shooting was naturally created. Those who did not wish to live the experience in the classroom were interested in it, and of course viewed the finished products. In the end, the goal of the organizers seems to have been achieved. Even if Emilien Lemoine does not know if their video will be useful and how it will be, he recognizes that it was a good experience which makes it possible to improve the confidence in oneself and in one's abilities.
