How to activate Facebook Rooms in Messenger to make videoconferences at 50
Updated onReading time: 2 minJulien Lausson Julien LaussonReading time: 2 min Julien Lausson Julien LaussonFacebook launches Rooms in Messenger, its room-based videoconferencing service that can accommodate up to 50 people at a time. The option does not appear when opening the application. Here's where to enable it.
The kick-off was given by Facebook on May 14. Rooms is now available to everyone, as long as they are using the latest version of Messenger. It is a videoconferencing service, announced at the end of April by the social network to catch up on Zoom, which exploded during confinement. With Rooms, which is called Salons in French, it is possible to accommodate up to 50 people at a time.
However, it turns out that the new option is not visible at first glance, since there is, according to our findings, no shortcut available as soon as the application is opened : it is therefore necessary to pass a few screens to get your hands on Rooms. However, it is possible that this shortcut will soon be added in a later update of Messenger.
How to activate Facebook Rooms
To help you find the feature, we therefore offer a quick getting started guide. You also have a montage of three screenshots to visually show you the way to Rooms.
Activation Rooms
Permissions for the microphone and the camera
Rooms being a video telephony service, it of course needs access to the microphone and the camera of the smartphone, if Messenger does not already have it access. If this is not the case, the application will ask for your consent. Once given and for reasons of convenience, it will no longer be systematically requested. However, it is still possible to revoke it in the options of the smartphone.
Rooms Authorization
Share a Facebook Rooms link
Once the room is launched, Facebook offers you to define its degree of confidentiality. Basically, the site offers that everyone can have access to the room if they have the link (which is written in the form: https://msngr.com/xxxxx, where xxxxx is a sequence of numbers and letters random (including lowercase and uppercase) It is possible to restrict to only Facebook members.
Sharing Rooms
Closing a Facebook Rooms
If no one has joined or the conversation has ended, the room creator has the option to leave the chat room. When leaving, the channel is still active and a notification is sent to the creator if someone joins the channel - useful if you open the channel early and do something else while waiting. It is also possible to close the living room. With this option, everyone is kicked out and the link becomes unusable.
