Mark Gurman's Apple Silicon roadmap: MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac and Mac Pro by the end of 2022 | MacGeneration
@jcp25
Thank you for your testimony which tempers things a bit
I've said it here and elsewhere a number of times: the M1 is an exceptional CPU for... a family machine
Once we understood that, we understood everything, but obviously a lot of people still believe that it is as powerful if not more than the i7 of a MacBook ProSo if we take the MacBook Pro 16 "basic...maybe, but I'm just reminding you that the basic 16" MacBook Pro is not a very capable machine, and that pros who need to do minimally heavy work use, like me, slightly more muscular configurations (and more expensive) And there… the M1 shows its limitations quite quickly, just like a good i5 with 16 GB of max ram remains incomparably slower than an i7 or an i9 with 32 or 64 GB of Ram and a dedicated GPU
That's all folks
You want a high-performance, low-power family machine: the M1 is for youYou want a workstation, there's nothing but Intel at the moment, if you're serious
