The end of winter is still a good time to install a camera in a nest box, before the installation of adult birds. 05/05/2019 | Validated by the reading committee 3 commentsIntroduction
When you have installed a nesting box in your garden, it is exciting to watch the birth and rearing of chicks. However, the birds should not be disturbed during nesting, as this may result in failure. A possible solution is to install a small camera (with or without wire) which will transmit to you without intrusion and without disturbance photos and videos of the different stages: supply of materials, egg-laying, hatching, birth of the chicks, feeding and flight (if all is going well !). In Europe, the Great and Blue tits will be the species most often filmed, but you can attract other birds depending on the type of nest box placed. To have everything ready before the arrival of adults, it is better to install the camera in winter or at the very beginning of spring, or even in autumn. In this article, we give you practical advice concerning the choice of the camera, the connections, the adjustments to be made and the final installation.
