Peugeot e-Rifter test: our autonomy and consumption measures from the city at the highway
Zapping Autoesews Green Chrysler Airflow (2022): the concept of electric compact SUV video in video
There is certainly a tendency to electrify models and the multiplication of 100 % electric cars but this proposal to surprise. The Peugeot Rifter, released in 2018 and switched to electric at the end of 2021, separates entirely from its thermal versions, however much more appropriate to the many uses expected from a kind of ludospace. It remains only the e-Rifter, which advocates its sustainable access to cities by adopting the motorization of the Peugeot E-208.But how many kilometers? Its template does not intend it more to urban areas than before - although a reasonable length of 4.40 m in short version - and its ability to travel seems affected by this choice.Because its battery remains the same, with a gross capacity of 50 kWh (46.4 kWh useful). On paper, it announces up to 282 km of autonomy in mixed WLTP cycle.
The Peugeot e-Rifter displays a first price at € 36,400 in “Active Pack” finish. You have to consent to switch to the “Allure Pack” finish, from € 39,500, for a practical endowment and more complete comfort. In particular, it adds a sliding side door on the left side with downward windows on both sides, the driver's seat adjustable in height, the folding front passenger seat, the opening rear window, the controls on the steering wheel (leather), the automatic wipers,The road lighting assistant, Electric children safety, rear parking assistance with reversing camera, digital instrumentation, 8 "central touch screen, Android Auto and Apple Carplay connection, 4 speakers, DAB digital radio, electrical and electrchrome interior mirrors or even the 16 "Alloy rims".
The “GT” finish is billed 40,850 € and adds, among other things, the automatic air conditioning bi-zones, the access and the start-ups, three retractable individual rear seats as well as specific style elements including a more sporty steering wheel and17 "rims".
The long version (4.75 m), is billed from € 37,650 (Active Pack) and € 40,500 (paces pak).
Our test version was a GT e-ray with metallic paint (€ 600), 230 V socket (€ 100), 2 14A mode charging cables and 3 (€ 510), “Zenith” panoramic roof (€ 750), Children's pack (children's mirror + sunlight blinds Rang 2 + storage in the floor Row 2; 200 €), City pack (front parking assistance, dead angles, Park Assist; 600 €), for a total price of 43610 €.A bonus of € 6,000 applies to all these rates (€ 5,000 from July 1, 2022).
During our measurements, the outside temperature displayed between 7 ° C and 8 ° C and the heating was set over 21 ° C.The normal driving mode was engaged.

Life on board
Lancer le diaporamaLes électriques polyvalentes | Peugeot e-Rifter+32Peugeot e-RifterCredit Photo - AutonewsElectrification does not change the living space of the Rifter.Available in five or seven-seater configurations (optional on the short version at € 700), it has a minimal loading volume of 775 liters with five seats, under the lining cover.By folding up the three rear seats, the carrying capacity rises to 3,000 liters to the pavilion, or even 3,500 liters by folding the front passenger seat.Rear seats that align almost with the floor for a beautiful exploitable space. The opening bezel independently of the tailgate is also a plus.
Second row passengers will have room in length and in the roof, but the limited width sticks the side occupants with the walls. The seat position is, moreover, quite straight.
The storage on board are very numerous and very large, distributed at all levels, between the seats, in the dashboard, on the ceiling. The fixed panoramic roof brings light and is accompanied by longitudinal hanging storage, backlit in the night and having a lower plastic side leaving the light to pass. The GT finish brings a pleasant presentation, with dark copper color panels in plastic fairly soft to the touch. The small steering wheel with two flat flaps does not interfere with the visibility of the counters placed much higher.Meters that go digital on this electric version.Overall, the interior is not rustic and the rounded shapes of the dashboard are not too "utilitarian".The materials used remain basic and the adjustments are not very precise.
The crossing of Paris
Lancer le diaporamaLes électriques polyvalentes | Peugeot e-Rifter+32Peugeot e-RifterCredit Photo - AutonewsIts primary goal is not to evolve in town but its battery of less than 50 kWh Nets pushes not to get too far away from it.On our journey through the capital, we noted a consumption of 23.3 kWh/100 km at 21 km/h on average. It is far too much and would only result in an autonomy of 199 km in urban areas.Sufficient on a daily basis but anyway little relevant for a vehicle dedicated to traveling.
At the wheel, we are installed in accordance with the position found in a van, the right file and here, with a very short seat which does not promote comfort.Especially since the suspensions are firm to support the weight of the batteries and an empty weight of 1,743 kg.This has at least the merit of maintaining the box properly and obtaining a sufficiently precise chassis, without real grip in the corners. The e-Rifter is high (1.88 m) but the center of gravity is low.
The new selection of the walking direction, on the central console, replaces the gear lever.A nicely drawn trigger to go from front to reverse, next to which a bar indicates the position started. On the upper end, a button for the "parking" position. On the lower tip, another touch to increase the energy recovery force when you release the accelerator ("B" mode). The slowdown is then much more powerful without going to the complete stop or too much brutality. The size of this order is however very small and therefore does not immediately fall under the finger during the driving.
City data
Highway
Lancer le diaporamaLes électriques polyvalentes | Peugeot e-Rifter+32Peugeot e-RifterCredit Photo - AutonewsIt is on highways that a model such that the rifter is led to be frequently. To go far, several and loaded. The e-ray must therefore deal on this ground with its electric motorization and its batteries which generate very important consumption. At 110 km/h, it amounted to 24.2 kWh/100 km, resulting in a autonomy slightly lower than that in town, or 192 km.No need to try to drive at 130 km/h, with 30.8 kWh/100 km noted. The autonomy would then fall at barely 151 km.And again, these figures get along with anything and nobody on board except the driver.E-Rifter announces a towing capacity of 750 kg.The network of secondary roads becomes in this case compulsory, without much hope of avoiding the recharge stop ...
The cubic shape of the ludospace is added to the weight and lack of sobriety of the on -board electrical system to encourage the quick way. This also generates aerodynamic noises well present but the general calm is still preserved at fast pace.We can be more disturbed by the dead angle caused by the thick central amount and the window with the cutting tilted in the lower part.Even by controlling the blind spot by direct vision by turning his head, he can hide a vehicle. The warning of dead angles and its small orange diode on the mirror is not necessarily very visible in full sun and the width of the mirror is not greater than that of another model, despite its greater height.Nor is it aspirious to increase the angle of view.In short, it is better to redouble a vigilance during a change of track.
E-Rifter also has three driving modes (Eco, Normal, Power). The first limits power and torque to 80 hp and 190 Nm as well as the efficiency of air conditioning. The second goes to 110 hp and 210 Nm while the third offers maximum power (136 hp and 260 Nm).
The latter should make it possible to perform 0 to 100 km/h in 11.2 sec while the top speed is limited to just over 130 km/h.In fact, we are satisfied with the "normal" mode to save a little battery.Without being very efficient, the raises of the e-Rifter prove to be correct and the torque available instantly is enough for this type of vehicle.

Question Refills
Lancer le diaporamaLes électriques polyvalentes | Peugeot e-Rifter+32Peugeot e-RifterCredit Photo - AutonewsThe Peugeot e-Rifter has a type 2 plug for alternating current load up to 7.4 kW (11 kW on-board charger optional at € 400) and a CCS Combo connector for fast load inDUR DU CURTIVE Up to 100 kW.They are found under a hatch at the level of the left rear wing. The cable for domestic sockets (Mode 2) comes in series but it is possible to replace it with a cable suitable for reinforced sockets (up to 14 amps (3.2 kW) instead of 10 A (2.3 kW)), reducing charging times and improving safety against € 150.Wallbox and public terminals cable (Mode 3) is billed € 360.
By recovering the battery of the Peugeot E-208 for urban use, charging times are generally shorter than electric models normally intended for versatile use.Which does not prevent you from considering a wallbox of at least 7.4 kW in order to be able to obtain a full charge in one night, useful with regard to the actual autonomy of this e-pier.
On a highway, with a power of 100 kW, the waiting time to go from 0 % to 80 % complies with this battery size.By respecting this range of load levels and according to our consumption noted, after the first stop, we should stop every 153 km (110 km/h) and 121 km (130 km/h) respectively respectively).
Note that by taking into account a range of load levels from 10 % to 80 %, more realistic for use, it would be necessary to stop every 134 km (110 km/h) and 105 km respectively (130 km (130km/h) approximately, after the first stop.

Balance sheet
Lancer le diaporamaLes électriques polyvalentes | Peugeot e-Rifter+32Peugeot e-RifterCredit Photo - AutonewsBy discovering the Peugeot e-Rifter at a stop, its reception qualities are obvious and unchanged compared to the old thermal versions. With its relatively compact size, it can take on an impressive amount of loading.Perfect to go on vacation, but much less with regard to his technical sheet. The 46.4 kWh of net capacity of its battery also feed the Peugeot E-208.More suitable in the city car, which can be satisfied with it, it seems much less in its place in the ludospace. He can always ride calm in town, but there is no need for this type of spacious body for that.
For its real use, it is nevertheless difficult: to travel 192 km at 110 km/h will already represent a performance for him.Between two charges, from 10 % to 80 %, it will be more 134 km ... empty! For years of the 282 km announced, which are however not exceptional for a car supposed to be versatility.Once loaded with luggage and passengers, we really wonder if the 100 km between two stops are achievable.
Despite the small capacity of the battery, it weighs 383 kilos, not likely to reduce consumption. But imposing enough to swell the prices.Bonus deducted, the e-Rifter is sold between € 30,400 and € 34,850 excluding options. The thermal rifter he replaced were marketed from less than € 24,000.
Whatever its intrinsic qualities and the approval that the electric can bring it, this motorization does not allow you to enjoy it very long.It even makes it impossible to reasonably consider departures to several, if only on medium distances.Consequently, he cannot assume the use to which the form of his body responds. Its interest becomes more than limited.
