Security cameras are very widespread today, and there are many models for all needs, and all budgets. The question is however more complicated when it comes to monitoring an isolated place, which does not have an internet connection, or which is too far from the WiFi network. In this case, a 4G security camera must be used. The models are still few, and the Arlo Go that I had presented to you was one of the only models. But Reolink, specialized in video surveillance, also offers 4G models: a “fixed” model, like the Arlo Go, but also a new motorized model: Reolink Go PT.Connected in 4G, and powered by a solar panel, it is a completely autonomous camera, which deserves to be interested!Installed for several months now on our leisure field, I suggest you discover it in more detail.
Presentation of the Reolink Go PT camera
The Reolink Go PT camera arrives in a very sober packaging, simply displaying the product.A small sticker indicates here that this pack has a vodaphone SIM card, but which is apparently not functional in France.
Inside, there is a complete content to say the least! The Reolink Go PT camera, of course, accompanied by its fixing support, a strap, screw, a solar panel and its fixing support also, an antenna, and a USB cable.
The camera itself, measuring 12cm high for 9.8cm wide at its base, looks like many other motorized cameras. It has a Full HD 1080 objective (no indications on the number of pixels)), 6 IR LEDs for night vision, a motion detector, a speaker, and a microphone for thebidirectional audio.
As we suspect with the sense of the logo, the Reolink Go PT is made to be placed below, thanks to the support provided:
At the back of the 4G camera, a small silicone cover gives access to the on / off button.
Below, the micro USB socket for the camera supply, as well as an antenna connector for 4G:
The underside has a standard screw step for fixing. It will be used to fix the camera to the support provided, but could be used with any conventional medium.Note the presence of the qrcode which will be to be scanned during the installation.
By rotating the lens of the camera (manually)), we access the accommodation for the micro SD, the SIM card (nano format)), as well as a reset button, all protected by silicone protection. It is a location that we do not guess, since these slots are generally in the base of the cameras. This is a good way to hide them while protecting them from bad weather.
The Reolink Go PT comes with a 16GB micro SD.According to the manufacturer, you can go up to 64GB, the SD must be formatted in FAT32.I have not tested greater, the 16GB card already allowing a good recording period.
To prepare the camera, simply fix it on its support, and screw the antenna:
The support can be fixed using screws and ankles (supplied)) or thanks to the strap, which I particularly appreciate to avoid drilling / nail in a tree ...
Last element of this packaging: the solar panel, accompanied by its fixing support:
Relatively compact (about twenty centimeters high)), it has a 4m cord, which will allow it to be widespread from the camera if necessary, to expose it as best as possible in the sun.
The 6500mAh battery of the camera can be loaded the first time using the USB cable supplied.Once in place, the solar panel will keep the camera in charge:
Of course, the whole is perfectly waterproof and will easily resist bad weather, allowing it to be installed both outside (pasture, farm, site)) and inside (warehouse for example)).

Installation and use of the Reolink Go PT camera
To start, you will have to load the 4G camera, and insert a SIM card, on which we will have deactivated the PIN code. Also remember to place the switch on on to start the camera.
Then, as usual, it will be necessary to install the Reolink application on your smartphone, which we had already discovered during the Reolink Argus 2nd 2nd test.We ask to add a new device, and we scan the qrcode present under the Reolink Go PT.This is automatically recognized. We then create a password to connect.
We give him a name: the installation is finished!Reolink Go PT is associated with your account, and if you are well covered in 3G or 4G, the camera must be accessible. The application then gives us some indications on the good positioning of the camera, in order to avoid untimely alerts.
Here, the camera has been positioned in a tree, about 3m high. The cord of the solar panel has been rolled up, because far too long here, the tree being already well exposed to the sun.But depending on the sunshine, if necessary, the panel could have been placed elsewhere, up to 4m from the camera itself!
The camera has been fixed using its strap, and the solar panel support using plastic fixing necklaces, so as not to make holes in the tree.
White in color, the installation is not particularly discreet, unlike an Arlo Go which offers various camouflage skins.Reolink unfortunately does not offer anything on this subject, so we will have to do with.Afterwards, some like that the camera is clearly visible, it is a means of deterrent in itself!
To come back to the application, here we are with an overview of the current video. We find the usual checks to take a photo or manually save a video. We can go into full screen, or activate the sound. But as this is a motorized 4G camera, it is also possible to rotate the camera in all directions to see what is happening. The engine here allows an angle of view of 355 ° horizontally, on 140 ° vertically, particularly appreciable!Although we are in 4G, the responsiveness is excellent: we handle the camera with the tip of your finger to view the area you want.On this subject, moreover, we would have liked to be able to create presets so that the camera goes directly to a pre -recorded place, without having to manipulate the different directions until you get the desired angle of view.It is a software evolution that we can may have later.
Always via this same screen, it is possible to speak to a visitor, the audio being bidirectional. It is also possible to trigger a mermaid via the icon at the top right.Well, it will not lend the entire neighborhood, the power being limited because of its operation on battery (a more powerful speaker would empty the battery much faster)).
Finally, it is possible to view all the recordings made by the Reolink Go PT.A calendar allows you to navigate on the desired date, and to select the recording to watch.Again, although the videos are stored on the micro SD, the whole is very responsive.Of course, this will depend on the quality of the connection, but the use of an external antenna considerably improves the quality (a very close arlo go, with the same SIM card, captures 1 or 2 sticks, when the connection is almost atmaximum on the Reolink Go PT)).
The camera of course offers various settings via the three “…” at the top right. This screen also makes it possible to have a rapid spur of the condition of the camera, and in particular its battery and its storage space. The battery is always 100%here, although it has been installed for 3 months now.The solar panel does its job perfectly! And it only uses 3GB of storage out of the 16 available.

The night vision can activate automatically or depending on schedules that will be determined, and it is possible to provide a post movement period: here, if a movement is detected, the video will also contain the 10s before the detection of the movement.Practical not to have that the end of a scene.
Finally, a very nice function appeared very recently: the possibility of creating timelaps, that is to say accelerated videos in order to follow the course of a day.The function offers presets to follow a sunrise or sunset, a site, the growth of a plant, etc..
The proposed functions are therefore relatively complete. In use, it would only miss the management of pre -recorded positions, and may be the possibility of programming a “round” using these positions.
In any case, connection to the camera is as fast as with a local WiFi camera, the video quality is very good, and the PTZ control of the 4G camera is very reactive!
Conclusion
This Reolink Go PT 4G camera is a product to know absolutely if you need to monitor an isolated place, whether it is a leisure field like mine, a pasture, a site, a warehouse, etc..The 4G connection is excellent thanks to its antenna (provided you select an operator correctly covering the area, of course)), and the perfect autonomy thanks to the solar panel.Having fully charged the battery before its implementation, after three months the camera is always 100% battery thanks to its solar panel which maintains the load. However, the land being in the forest, the solar panel is far from being exposed to full sun all day.
Regarding data consumption, it only takes place when you connect to the camera, to pilot it, view the recordings, or view live.I use a price from Prixtel, which costs me € 3.99 / month for 5GB of data. And on average, I use barely 1 GB of data per month. It will of course depend on the use you make of it: here I only connect myself when I have a notification, or from time to time to see how the situation is on my field (the time it does, thestate of my fed up, etc..)).Data consumption is therefore very reasonable.
Of course, 4G cameras being few in the market, we are necessarily tempted to compare with the Arlo Go that I had presented you.First of all, although very innovative when it was released, it must be noted that the Arlo Go has not changed for 3 years. It must be said that this area of 4G cameras is a niche, with a very specific type of use.In addition, for this price, the camera is delivered without solar panel, sold € 99 optional, which inflates the bill.

But the battle does not stop there: Reolink has the big advantage of being motorized, which allows you to monitor a much larger area and thus limit the multiplication of cameras.Big big strong point! The 4G connection is also better thanks to its external antenna, which will be a determining point in places whose GSM coverage is a little low.
Côté qualité vidéo et autonomie (grâce au panneau solaire)), les deux caméras se valent.Arlo has an advantage over movement detection, since it can distinguish humans, animals, and vehicles. But at the cost of a small subscription.Reolink will alert at the slightest movement, without any distinction. However, despite the moving foliage and gray areas, it only leaks me).Detection is therefore rather efficient. On the other hand, it does not ask for any subscription, and does not set any limits to recordings, these being on the memory card and not the Cloud (Reolink offers a cloud option in some countries, but not yet in France. The option is not compulsory, but allows you to have a backup of videos in the cloud if someone was flying or destroyed the camera)).
The Arlo Go is therefore interesting when you already have an ARLO system eco, or you want precise human / animal / vehicle detection. But it is to date the only argument he has left: Reolink Go PT surpasses it on all other criteria: more advantageous price, motorization, better 4G connection, and no necessary subscription. In short, if you have to monitor an isolated area, I highly recommend this 4G Reolink Go PT camera, which keeps its promises perfectly, and for a price that remains very reasonable given this niche market!
