Pecquencourt. For the mayor, the price of video protection is justified
How much does it cost ?During the last municipal council, a large part of the debates, between the municipal majority of Joël Pierrache and the opposition led by Rémy Vanandrewelt, turned around the price of the cameras which will be installed for the video-protection.
Rémy Martinowski presented the project as it had been validated by the tender committee via a consulting firm."The public market is launched," he informed the municipal council. The project is to install 55 cameras and all the infrastructure necessary for the images to be directed to a central server.Total cost of the chosen offer: some 500,000 euros all inclusive.
A prize that made Rémy Vanandrewelt react repeating that he still questions "the establishment of 55 video-protection cameras while the population has not been consulted" and that he claims "a municipal or inter-municipal police".Above all, he has other figures he has obtained from Férin and Denain: "Here we are at 7,600 euros per camera against 1700 euros in Denain, it's a hell of a difference".
Except that both prices are difficult to compare. In Denain, it was a question of extending an already existing network, in the light of adding cameras where the whole infrastructure was already in place. In Pecquencourt, we start from scratch: the whole video-protection system is to be created."Me, it seems to me very much and even very very expensive," repeats the municipal councilor of opposition.
It turns out that it was the same cabinet that advised the municipalities of Denain and Pecquencourt."We compare what is not comparable because here all the architecture is to be built," confirms the expert in digital security and urban video-protection of said cabinet.
An extended and green municipality
In addition, the two municipalities are very different: Pecquencourt is very extensive and “very green”.So that the cameras can transmit their data to a central computer, very high masts must be established, which mix harmoniously with the environment.
Another explanation of this cost which seems important to the opposition: the importance of the security of the whole system (everything has been implemented to avoid any hacking) and the possibility of future development."It is planned in the specifications", explains the mayor, Joël Pierrache. And so each new camera that could be added will cost much less afterwards.
The system should be operational during the first half of 2022."We adjust our calendar to obtain state subsidies," justifies the mayor who rewritten the Minister of the Interior to tell him that if local authorities agree to participate in the security effort, aidare necessary.
