"La Traversée": a contemporary tale made in the painting projected in the cinema
This is a first ... A 1h24 feature film in the form of an animated paint, fully made with the brushes. This technique allows you to plunge into an authentic universe filled with emotions.Interview with Luc Camilli, the co -producer of the film "La Traversée" released indoors this September 29.
This is the story of a brother and sister forced to leave their imaginary country to escape totalitarianism.A tale that comes to life with oil painting ... and after twelve years of reflection for the director of animated films Florence Miailhe.Part of the work, rewarded by the Jury of the Festival and the International Annecy Animation Film Market, was created in the Magnie Studio, in Tournefeuille, near Toulouse.Meeting with Luc Camilli, the co -producer of the film "La Traversée".
A feature film with animated painting, Quésaco? How do you drive images from paintings?
Luc Camilli: In the first place, we paint on a glass plate the bottom of the decor, in the background. We then superimpose different layers of decoration always in a horizontal glass plate. The camera is suspended vertically.Which makes it possible to film the different layers of paint. The animators made oil painting each image of the film with oil. They erased the previous image to go to the next or evolve them while keeping certain parts. The different layers of glass also made it possible to avoid the mixture of colors.
It’s a Titan job… why not have opted for digital?
L.C: this allows you to keep this artisanal touch with the material of painting.Today, we can even digitally reproduce false plasticine but it is not the same charm, the same texture, the same depth. The emotion that can be felt with painting is real ...
Is it also a new writing method?
L.C: This is a unique film by its technique, its format, its style...This method leaves a lot of freedom on the scenario and the form.It is an original film that differs from what we can see in the cinema. The narrative technique with the painting is singular. The texts come to accompany the image when it is not speaking enough. The image tells the story but in a poetic and artistic way.
It is a fictitious story that could well be real...
L.C: This is a topical film and at the same time a timeless film since it speaks of exile, of migration...This is a subject that has been going through the history of human beings for a very long time and which refers to very recent events. The narrative form is the tale, which allows a double level of reading. For children, it's a poetic story.Adults, they perceive all the references to the news which gives a little more depth and emotion to the film.
The film comes out indoors this September 29… So proud?
L.C: This is a relief that the film exists because it was not won in advance to be able to finance it and make it.It is already awarded. This rewards our work.It is not a film that goes unnoticed. His release is a real emotion for me.
