While she will soon be appearing in the film Spencer by Pablo Larraín, Kristen Stewart is about to go behind the camera with her first feature film, The Chronology of Water, adapted from the memoirs of the American novelist Lidia Yuknavitch.
Kristen Stewart, a true cinema chameleon
The American actress very quickly moved away from her role as Bella Swan in Twilight which revealed her in 2008 to get closer to auteur cinema and choose interpretations as multiple as they are sharp. From the drama The Guard to the thriller Personal Shopper via the comedy-drama with jazzy sounds Café Society by Woody Allen, she bursts the screen and has found her place alongside Julianne Moore in Still Alice, or Juliette Binoche in Sils Maria directed by French filmmaker Olivier Assayas. A demanding film which notably won her a César for Best Supporting Actress. While she is on all the shoots (Kristen Stewart has just finished that of Crimes of the Future by David Cronenberg with Viggo Mortensen and Léa Seydoux), the actress is about to go to the other side of the camera .
What do we know about his film?
This isn't Kristen Stewart's first time behind the cameraThe American star has never hidden her desire to become a director: a clip for the country rock group Sage + The Saints in 2014, a first short film Come Swin presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017 and a second made the year last during confinement and broadcast on Netflix, as part of the Homemade series. But with The Chronology of Water, Kristen Stewart tackles the long format of the seventh art for the first time.
The film is based on the best-selling novel The Chronology of WaterInspired by the tormented life of the novelist Lidia Yuknavitch, the film will retrace the life of this talented young swimmer born into an unhealthy and oppressive family, surrounded by an alcoholic mother and a father who abused her sexually. Having in turn become subject to various addictions, the protagonist manages despite everything to enter university thanks to swimming, a sport she has practiced since childhood and which earns her a scholarship. During her studies, she succeeded in obtaining a doctorate in English literature, and decided to devote herself to the art of writing.
Topics covered will range from childhood, destructive family relationships, to sexuality and gender issuesThe raw realism that earned a real craze when the novel was published in 2011 will be exploited on the big screen, exploring the issues of sexuality, gender and violence. The project is essentially intimate and independent. If its release date is currently unknown, the public will be able, in the meantime, to find Kristen Stewart in Spencer, the biopic dedicated to Princess Diana. The film will be released in theaters this Friday, November 5 in the United States, then will be available in France on the Amazon Prime platform.
