How to secure the house for the holidays? What solutions with a small budget?
Summer vacation is fast approaching, it's time to plan ahead and consider securing the house in our absence. Indeed, one month before the first departures, there is still time to ask the right questions. Sufficient time for reflection and implementation. Several paths are available to you. There is, of course, the use of an alarm solution sub-contracted by a service provider and a subscription-based solution such as Verisure. You can also go through a professional, usually an electrician who will offer you a turnkey solution. Very often a proprietary solution, for which it will be necessary to call on your professional for any development and/or maintenance. If the solution is good, it will not be less expensive, quite the contrary.
For a classic house, the estimates are around 2000€ or even more if you plan to couple cameras to it. This is also one of the reasons that pushed me to get into home automation at the time. Indeed, I initially had to consult my electrician who offered an alarm and video surveillance system for a cost of more than 2500€ to equip my house at the time. Very quickly, I looked at the alternatives available and even if 15 years ago the solutions were much fewer, several alternatives existed and much less expensive. Attention, I am not saying that the solutions proposed by the professionals are bad! Simply, know that other solutions exist, without the need for a professional and for which the implementation, even if you know absolutely nothing about it, remains very simple. If you follow us regularly, you know that we advocate Do It Yourself and flat rates, which is why we are now offering you alternative solutions that are just as effective and much more economical.
In 2021, things have indeed greatly evolved, always simpler and more connected while gaining in performance.
The connected alarm system
It is the most secure access and the one that comes closest to what a professional can offer you. These are real alarm systems certified by organizations and therefore recognized as such, which offer to monitor your openings and perimeter zones via motion detection. In the age of increased connectivity, these systems are of course connected and therefore notify you of everything that is happening in your home, even when you are not there. Finally, this connected aspect also makes implementation much simpler. It actually takes less than an hour to install your system without the need for specific hardware or even technical knowledge.
If several systems exist, we retain two systems that stand out. The first is a Diagral alarm, recognized in the industry, it is even an alarm brand that can be offered to you by your professional. With its e-ONE range Diagral allows its system to be connected to your smartphone and therefore easily manageable from the latter. Finally, connectivity offers you the possibility of activating or deactivating the system from wherever you are and of course receiving alerts.

The other solution is that of Somfy, the Home Alarm. Again, this is a real alarm system that has some very interesting and unique features. For those who don't know yet, Somfy bought the excellent MyFox brand a few years ago. For those who did not know MyFox, they were the first to invent a connected alarm system based on very intelligent sensors, equipped with technology to infuriate burglars and delight insurers because the technology of its Intellytag detects the breach even before it occurs. To put it simply, the technology embedded in these sensors makes it possible to detect the micro vibrations produced by a drill in a lock barrel or any break-in attempt. In fact, the alarm detects the intrusion even before the burglar has succeeded in forcing the opening. Of course, the latter also detect the opening. As for Somfy, they took over all the know-how of MyFox to make it an alarm system that is still just as smart, connected and complete.

What else can be said about this system, except that it is probably the easiest to install while being simple to use and smart enough to be forgotten. For example, the system deactivates the alarm on its own when it recognizes that it is you who is going through the door... A function, here again really very useful with children who do not have to worry about deactivating the alarm to go home.

Cameras for the outside of the house
Another way to secure the house without going through an alarm system is video surveillance. From a security point of view, the alarm system remains the safest solution to secure the house. However, if the budget does not directly allow it, you can simply equip the house with a few indoor cameras. By activating motion detection on the latter, you can quickly be alerted by notification and receive photos to confirm the intrusion and contact the emergency services.

These devices are very economical while being very efficient and do not require any technical skill for implementation. No opening ports to perform on your internet router for example, everything is supported directly by the mobile application. You then have access to recorded and live images wherever you are.
Cameras for inside the house
Outside, the logic is the same, even if the motion detection is more complex since the surrounding environment disturbs the detection. However, in parallel with the interior system, not activating the notification on the exterior cameras but the recording of movements is also an excellent solution. On the one hand, IP cameras positioned outside the house have a dissuasive role. On the other hand, the latter make it possible to remove any doubt in the event of interior detection, or even an alert from your alarm system. This is why coupling a connected alarm system and a video surveillance system is the perfect solution.

The home alarm system
It is not an alarm system recognized as such, yes, but for all that, it is very efficient, useful and it is the most economical. We have seen in a guide how to make an alarm system based on a home automation box and the Zigbee protocol for a budget of less than 250€. Knowing that the system also allows you to benefit from all the other aspects offered by a home automation system, the operation is really very interesting. If the system is not recognized as a real alarm system, it fulfills exactly the same mission. It is able to inform you of an intrusion via multiple channels (telegram, push notification, SMS, etc.) but also to play scenarios accordingly, such as turning on all the lights on the floor if an intrusion is detected. This is just one example, because anything is possible.
