After several months of preparation and consultation, the project to install a surveillance camera in the municipality of Faa'a has just been finalized.
A funding request shared between the municipality, the country and the state, estimated at 50 million francs, is being prepared in order to install the first cameras, during the third quarter of 2022.
The safety of the population, the surveillance of traffic lanes and public buildings are among the motivations of the municipal team, indicates the town hall, in a press release, which considers that "the establishment of such a surveillance system will allow the 'identification of dangers and violations in real time, as well as almost immediate interventions'.
The municipality plans to deploy its surveillance system at specific points spread over the municipal territory, identified in relation to the municipal police and the gendarmerie.
The cameras will be installed as a priority along the Nelson Mandela road, in particular on sites exposed to the risk of aggression, theft or drug trafficking.
Intended solely for the surveillance of public roads, the private spaces included in the field of vision will be blurred, as required by the regulations in force.
A handful of municipal police officers assigned to viewing the images will benefit from specific training to be sworn in.
