By the way, why is Nathan Drake called Nathan Drake in Uncharted?

A family story...

As in Tomb Raider, the main character is a kind of "treasure hunter". Players explore distant lands, from snow-capped mountains to tropical islands to dense forests and sometimes well-hidden villages. Perilous climbs, heavy firefights and puzzles / riddles are on the agenda, with a very cinematic narrative staging as a bonus in the latest opuses.
If Lara Croft is the famous heroine of the Tomb Raider license, Uncharted is worn by Nathan Drake – Nate. He is accompanied by other characters, such as his mentor, Sully, the journalist Elena Fischer, his brother Samuel, or even Chloé Frazer, also an explorer. In 2016, however, Naughty Dog officially ended Nate's adventures.

In 2016, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was, as its name suggests, Nathan Drake's last adventure. The game's ending even introduced his daughter, Cassie, a possible heroine for a sequel. And, moreover, Naughty Dog proposed in 2017 an independent game, Uncharted The Lost Legacy, featuring Chloe Frazer (and Nadine, the antagonist of the fourth opus).
But by the way, why is this explorer so beloved by players called Nathan Drake?
A tribute to Nate and Sam's mother
Nathan Drake's real name is Nathan Morgane. From the earliest games, it was known that Nate had taken his alias as a tribute to British explorer and privateer Sir Francis Drake. The latter is not only from the game, it did indeed exist in the 16th century. In the game, Nate claims to be his descendant. In Drake's Fortune, moreover, the third opus, the hero of the game goes in search of El Dorado, in the footsteps of Francis Drake who, according to him, would have also continued this quest.

But in Uncharted 4, we learn that Nathan chose this name for a slightly more intimate reason than simply to show off. Nate and his brother Sam lived most of their youth in an orphanage, having lost their parents at an early age. In one of the chapters of the fourth opus recounting the childhood of the two characters, the two brothers break into a house where all the belongings of their late mother are stored.
There they meet the owner of the place, a former friend of their mother. She tells them that both have collaborated together on archaeological research, and that they had a theory: Sir Francis Drake would have descendants. She then entrusts them with their mother's journals, urging them to continue what she had started. It was shortly after that Nate and Sam decided to adopt "Drake" as a name, to honor their mother's theory and in turn pursue a journey of explorers. And we then understand that it is for this reason that Nate claims to be descended from Francis Drake.
