The five European production sites in NSK are supplied with green electricity
Thanks to these contracts, the five European production factories of NSK - including MUDERKENGEN (Germany) and Kielce and WAłbrzych (Poland) - are now supplied with green electricity, just like the European headquarters and the company technological center in Railgent(Germany). This positive development is one of the many measures taken by NSK to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment and is part of the European objective of the company aimed at operating neutral production sites inCarbon (1 and 2 range emissions) by 2030.
The use of green energy has a considerable impact on reducing harmful climate emissions. After going entirely to electricity From renewable sources in 2019, the Kielce factory -the largest NSK site in Europe -recorded the following year a reduction in CO2 emissions by around 65,000 tonnes.
"Although the two British factories are smaller than Kielce in terms of electricity consumption," explains Eddie Ward, NSK Europe manager of quality and environmental systems, EQA (European Quality Insurance - European Quality Insurance), "Weforesee an annual reduction of approximately 10,000 tonnes of declared CO2 emissions, which still represents a considerable drop.We will thus be able to reach our durability objectives and to contribute to the fight against global warming ”.
In addition to the green energy supply, 23 NSK sites worldwide produce solar and wind energy on site, thus reducing CO2 emissions by around 3,900 tonnes per year. This activity responds to the company's permanent ambition to reduce energy consumption in its factories and offices.
NSK set up a key performance indicator (ICP) in 2008 to measure the environmental impact of each new product: the "NECO" factor.
According to Eddie Ward: "With this factor, we treat the indicators of eco-efficiency in order to assess in an exhaustive and quantitative way the ecological character of our products. Our goal is to develop new products with a 1,2 or more NECO score. In 2020, we reached this objective on six new ecological products, including bearings, linear guides, actuators and fats.We continue this activity with all our developments in new products.»»
