"nothing new this year", my challenge 2020-blog Huffington Post life
I heard about the "nothing new this year" challenge, I saw posts on Instagram and at the beginning of the year, without asking more than that, I thought, "OK, I take up the challenge: I'm not buying anything new this year".
That was January 1st. Even if I Don't make "good resolutions", I face challenges.
And then on January 2, my son asked me for ink cartridges for school after he told me that his classmates Don't care about his Spiderman socks and that he needs more.
And then I thought to myself, in this challenge, there's a level! I need an action plan!
Why a challenge nothing new?
PublicitéBut above all, the nothing new challenge, which was developed by the association Zero Waste France, is a great opportunity to act for the planet and the circular economy.
The objectives are therefore:
PublicitéThis is interesting because it goes towards reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions! Bingo!
Challenge nothing new: the Action Plan
Announcing the challenge to your loved ones
If you want to take on this challenge as a family, it is of course fundamental that everyone be willing or it is guaranteed failure. Everyone needs to understand the objectives and reasons for what can be considered a sacrifice for compulsive consumers.
Announcing the challenge to your loved ones is also a demand for them to respect it. Please Don't give me any new items this year. If it inspires you, this point is covered in my articles on Christmas gifts, it may help!
We can't impose on them, but we can ask!
Establishing rules for this challenge
And exceptions …
I decided to exclude school supplies from the challenge and what could cause social harm to my loustic.
Entering the circular economy
Publicité- Réparer les objets abîmés: vêtements, objets déco, jouets;
- Choisir ses lieux d’achat pour privilégier l’occasion;
- Appliquer la Méthode BISOU déjà abordée dans cet article:
A small assessment after a month of challenge nothing new …
My "failures" and victories explained in detail
Long live second-hand shopping!
After the sock and school business, the preparations for the following holidays arrive: we go to the snow! No problem even though Loustic grew up and my boots died last winter after fifteen years of good and loyal service, we reequip ourselves from head to toe between Vinted, eBay and the right corner.
Then I wanted to read a new book (which I will talk to you soon because it is the subject of another challenge … Teasing) and it's okay, I found it on PriceMinister telling myself I have to re-enrol in the media library!
Except that sometimes there are contingencies …
And then … The right rear tire of my car (yes, I'm not always cycling. No one is perfect) looked a little chicken...
PublicitéLet me make it short: the tire specialist near me told me that the metal mesh of the tire was hit (apparently the work of a screw or nail …) And that he had no right to repair it for security reasons.
Here I am with a flat tire, which is not even in stock at the suppliers … Big dilemma: knowing that the left tire is nickel is what I'm looking for 2 used rear tyres, a used tire (not found … It usually changes by two, it seems …) , a brand new tire (these can be bought by unit …) .
Well, there you go, a new tire and shipping costs (CO2 my friend …) . Maybe I should get rid of my car? Argh!
And common hazards …
So, to finish this series:
How to secure your challenge nothing new?
Review of second-hand purchases
That's good, but it makes packaging and parcels when you order online. For the boxes, I'll reuse them because I also sell online. For packaging such as scooped plastic bags that you have to destroy to open … Well, it's trash!
PublicitéSo in the future, I'm going to give priority to hand-delivered or depot sales.
Followed with a list of my purchases
I made a simple little table for myself: a column for the date, one for new items, one for second-hand items or repaired to avoid a purchase.
This list makes it possible to relativize failures, to understand them, and perhaps to create certain rules of anticipation where possible.
Establishing new rules
The challenge nothing new can't be applied to the maintenance of the house, the car. Not to health either. Or at school. You just have to be aware of it and accept it.
Review priorities
Finally, this nothing new challenge opens my eyes to consumption. As much as there are inevitable purchases, so much a month of challenge also makes you think.
PublicitéI will certainly give you a monthly review on Instagram or Facebook. Case to follow!
Success?
