Covid-19: when will herd immunity in the Czech Republic?
The Ministry of Health is therefore still far from its objective of reaching the rate of 75% of the population vaccinated in September, synonymous, according to specialists, with herd immunity. This weekend, Minister Adam Vojtěch indicated that once the threshold of three quarters of the population vaccinated has been crossed, the obligation to wear the mask in closed places could be lifted, as well as the health measures still in force. at public events.
The results of a recent study by scientists at Masaryk University in Brno show that up to half of the Czech adult population may have been infected with Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. The research project planned this time by the Ministry of Health must mobilize, in the weeks and months to come, thousands of volunteers from all over the Czech Republic, to assess the real level of herd immunity.

The study, based on regular testing, should also determine how exactly the antibodies protect the individual, as Deputy Health Minister Martina Koziar Vašáková explains:
“We can then, for example, tell a person who has recovered from Covid-19 and in whom the antibodies persist, for approximately how long they are still immune. »
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, what is decisive for protection against reinfection with the coronavirus is the time elapsed since contamination and not the level of antibodies. Immunologist Jiří Litzman adds:
