Wind power at sea: France must be more ambitious, advocates a report from the regulator COMMENTS
France must set itself more ambitious objectives for the development of offshore wind power and other marine energies, advocates a report published on Tuesday under the aegis of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).
The regulator has published the conclusions of several working groups which have looked into France's energy future within the framework of its "Foresight Committee".
One of these groups was devoted to marine energies, an area in which France has significant potential, given its coastlines, but where it is lagging significantly behind in development compared to some of its neighbours, with no park yet. connected.
The report suggests “posting more ambitious objectives for the marine renewable energy sector”.
He proposes to set new objectives during the revision of the multiannual energy program (PPE) in 2023: 18 gigawatts (GW) in 2035 and 50 GW in 2050 for offshore wind power.
France has currently set a target for wind power generation capacity (fixed and floating) at sea at 2.4 GW in 2023 and between 5.2 GW and 6.2 GW in 2028.

The authors also advocate targets for tidal energy (which uses current): 0.5 GW in 2030 and 3.5 GW in 2050, as well as for wave energy (which uses waves) with 3.5 GW in 2050.
The authors also propose "a binding national maritime planning for 2050", which could be placed under the aegis of the Ministry of the Sea.
They address the delicate question of acceptability, while wind farms are contested in particular by fishermen, defenders of biodiversity or landscapes.
"Even when there is no one on the ground, only fish, we do not agree", regretted the president of the CRE, Jean-François Carenco.
Another working group has proposed to "rationalize the regulated electricity tariff by making it seasonal", while it is the same all year round, while supporting the most precarious public.
These recommendations will not necessarily be implemented but they are made public so that public decision-makers in particular can take action. "It's a job of influence," said Mr. Carenco.
