Israel and Jordan agree for a solar energy exchange for water
Jordan and Israel agreed on Monday from an agreement to allow the chopped kingdom to provide solar energy to the Hebrew state, which will deliver in exchange for the musted water to its large desert neighbor, according to a declaration of'intention signed on Monday.
This document, prepared under the aegis of the United States, was signed by ministers from the two countries at the Dubai Universal Exhibition, in the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of the US Special Envoy for the Climate, John Kerry.
This project is the "most important" since peace between the two countries signed in 1994, the Israeli Energy Minister Karine Elharrar said in a statement. Its advantages "are not assessed only in terms of green electricity or musted water, but also from the point of view of the strengthening of relations with the neighbor with the longest border with Israel," she congratulated herself.
A solar power plant with a capacity of 600 megawatt, which according to the press should be built by the United Arab Emirates, must export green energy in Israel. The Hebrew state will deliver 200 million cubic meters of water in the kingdom in return.

Jordan suffers from extreme droughts. Thus, even when the two nations were at war after the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, they held cooperation meetings in the field of water.Israel is also a warm and dry country, but new technologies have reduced the cost of treatment for salt water. The country, world leader in desalination, can thus sell more water to its neighbor, without compromising domestic demand.
This cooperation could improve bilateral relations, which had deteriorated under the former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Naftali Bennett, Prime Minister since June, has strengthened bonds with Amman a priority. In October, Israel has already signed an agreement doubling the amount of water provided to Jordan, which needs some 1.3 billion cubic meters of water per year.He supervises the sale by Israel by 50 million m3 of water per year in the machemite kingdom in addition to the 55 million m3 that he already provides him for free each year.It also allows Amman to buy additional water at 65 cents per m3 for one year, with an option to buy the same amount for two additional years but at a slightly higher price.
