Heat pump: a net growth market

The heat pump market is flourishing in France.Aerothermal heat pumps (CAP) are the best-selling, including Air-Air CAP.Aerothermal CAPs that are easy to install are still preferred to geothermal PACs.Zoom on sales of these heating and air conditioning devices.

Air-to-air heat pumps

2021 was a flourishing year for sales of Air-Air aerothermal heat pumps.

The boom in air-to-air PACs in 2021

From January to June, sales of air-to-air heat pumps experienced growth of 6 % compared to 2020.It is nothing compared to the growth of 50 % recorded between January and April 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.But these figures are to be put into perspective, because spring 2020 had been marked by the confinement of France.Heat pump sales were then found in a standstill.

Monosplit Reversible Air Air Air

From January to August 2021, PAC sales flew away.There are more than 670,000 units sold in the territory.Among these record sales, reversible air-to-air heat pumps-or monosplit-are largely pulled out of the game.This type of installation offering both a heating and air conditioning solution represents 67 % of Air-Air CAP sales with 455,000 units sold in 2021.If the reversible air-to-air PACs represent 2/3 of sales, they are nevertheless competition by multisplit.

Multisplit reversible air-to-air PAC

Reversible multisplit air conditioners help heat or cool one or more rooms of a accommodation.The multisplit is distinguished from the monosplit because its technology makes it possible to link an outdoor unit to several interior units and therefore to heat several parts.Multisplit systems have passed at 216,000 units in France in 2021, posting growth of 21 %.

Interior units

Regarding the interior units installed in the house, the buyers of heat pumps largely prefer interior wall units.These represent 85 % of sales.

Air-water heat pumps

Air-water heat pumps are also on the rise.

Average air-water PAC temperature

Between January and August 2021, PAC Air-Eau sales jumped 65 % compared to the previous year.Thus, 161,000 air-water heat pumps were sold in France during the first 8 months of the year.Among the Air-Eau CAPs, medium temperature heat pumps recorded an unprecedented increase with 93 % growth on sales of this product.80,000 units sold out.

High temperature air-water PAC

High temperature PACs (greater than 65 ° C) are not outdone either.Their sales increased by 39 % for a total of 13,000 units sold.High temperature CAPs connect to an existing heating network and allow radiators to supply with a water input temperature greater than 65 ° C.

These heat pumps are ideal during renovation project.Originally installed radiators are generally dimensioned to operate at high temperature, above 75 ° C.When replacing an old boiler, it is therefore logical to move towards high temperature heat pumps.

Geothermal heat pumps

Much less installed than their aerothermal counterparts that draw the energy calories present in the air, geothermal heat pumps are still progressing.1,500 units were sold in France in the first eight months of 2021, an increase in sales of 11 %.

These heat pumps remain largely in the minority, in particular due to the complexity of their installation compared to the simplicity of the aerothermal system.Geothermal PAC sensors must indeed be placed in the ground, either horizontally or vertically.But in any case, the installation is less easy to implement.However, this type of heat pump is very efficient.Indeed, thanks to the sensors buried in the soil, a geothermal pac does not undergo the temperature differences caused by seasonal changes and can thus provide a similar yield throughout the year.

Thermodynamic water heaters (CETI)

Thermodynamic water heaters are also part of the heat pump family since it is a small power CAP dedicated only to the production of domestic hot water (ECS).Thermodynamic water heaters continue to seduce the French since 100,000 units were sold this year, an increase in sales of 51 % compared to 2020.
