GAF Energy launches the world's first range of solar panels to be mounted on traditional roofs
North American solar tile supplier GAF Energy has announced the launch of Timberline Solar, which the company calls "the world's first nailed sunroof."
This week, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2022), in Las Vegas, USA, Timberline Solar Energy Shingle, as the technology is called, will receive the “Best of Innovation” awards in the “Smart Cities” and “Innovation” category, in the “Smart Cities” and “Smart Home” categories.
What differentiates this product from other solar roof tiles on the market, such as Tesla's, for example, is that the system integrates solar technology directly into traditional roofing processes and materials.
According to GAF Energy, the tiles will be manufactured at the company's facility in San Jose, California. They are designed to withstand winds of up to 130 mph.
solar energy is clean energy
“Solar rooftops are the future of clean energy, and Timberline Solar is the innovation that will get us there,” said Martin DeBono, president of GAF Energy.
"Realizing our vision of an innovative solar rooftop for the mass market has been our mission since the launch of GAF Energy in 2019. What the team has achieved is nothing short of extraordinary," said David Winter and David Millstone, CEO of Standard Industries, parent company of GAF Energy.
The Timberline Solar project has achieved UL 7103 certification, which authorizes GAF Energy to install the system on residential rooftops as both a roofing product and a solar energy product, the first of its kind to be recognized under both designations.
Additionally, GAF Energy worked with Sandia National Laboratories, a US Department of Energy research and development laboratory, to verify the product's strength, durability and overall market readiness.
