Electric motorhome: why they don't believe it
They believe that the electric motorhome is unrealistic. Why ? Because the production of electricity would not be enough, because the autonomy and the recharging time will not be adapted to the practice of the motorhome. Today we give the floor to those motorhome owners who do not believe in the future of the 100% electric motorhome.
Regularly, we ask questions on our facebook page. One of the recent polls was about the electric motorhome. The question we asked was about autonomy. We wanted to know how many kilometers motorhome owners want to be able to travel on a charge. We will post the answers soon. But what surprised us was that most of the participants drastically ruled out the electric motorhome hypothesis.
Electric motorhome: the reasons for pessimism
At Camping-Car World, we do not have a strong point of view on the subject. We note that car manufacturers produce electric utility vehicles, and that fitters convert them. For the moment in van, even in van. A trend that is certainly going in the direction of history. But our readers have doubts, supported by serious arguments. Let us mention the following points:

The opinions of motorhome owners
Phileas: before going electric, you have to make sure you can meet demand. Today, we are not able to produce enough electricity for the current situation, so imagine with 5 million vehicles in charge.
Arnaud: A motorhome is all about getting away from it all, discovering distant regions, freedom and... autonomy! All this is incompatible with the constraints of electricity.

Myriam: The first concern is the lack of fast charging terminals.
Jérôme: We must forget about electricity and think instead of hydrogen for the solution of the future. And in addition the motorhome will be totally autonomous in electricity like that.

Bob: Already on the areas and campsites we are limited in amps so if in addition you have to charge…
Caroline: Stop saying that electricity doesn't pollute. To manufacture the batteries, it is necessary to draw lithium. And once the battery is dead, it must be recycled. This is not the solution.
Pierre: A good diesel is less polluting than electricity supplied by German coal-fired power stations!
Marc: The problem is not that of the autonomy of the batteries but that of their weight. In electric, at 3.5 tonnes, manufacturers will no longer be able to equip anything in it.
Denis: I can already see motorhome areas sprouting up where we can (have to) recharge and where we will pay as much for the night as the night in a hotel.
Klem: Personally, I'm against all-electric. Strictly, a hybridization, ok, but for me the thermal has not said its last word. We can still improve all that.
An exception: for Patrick, the electric motorhome is essential
Patrick: All vehicles, without exception, will go electric. We have to stop believing that it will not happen. Certainly motorhomes will surely be the last but they will pass there like the others. Oil production reached its maximum at the end of 2019, since then it will only drop, the switch to electric has nothing green or otherwise, it is a means of transport as polluting as thermal ones, but we do not cannot continue to waste oil to burn it in cars when it is a raw material for the manufacture of thousands of products.
