Baobab + aims to accelerate the solar revolution in Madagascar
120,000 homes equipped in 5 years. Baobab + has established itself as a major player in the energy and digital access sector in half a decade of presence in Madagascar. A country where the rate of access to energy remains low. Its activity as a supplier of solar kits serves, in the medium term, as a springboard towards the digital inclusion of Malagasy households.
Operating in 22 regions, the social company specialising in energy autonomy announces that it has sold 111,000 solar products, mainly solar kits, as well as 9,000 smartphones and tablets since 2016. A beautiful growth supported by a distribution network that serves both rural customers, and urban customers.
In order to make products accessible to all, Baobab + offers, for example, a payment offer based on customers' ability to repay via its pay-as-you-go solution.
Guilla Lenne Venance, Managing Director of Baobab + Madagascar, believes the impact of Baobab + is positive.
In an effort to densify this distribution network and to strengthen itself further in the market, the social enterprise has made the point of forging partnerships with other major players. As is the case, for example, with Orange Madagascar, Orange Money, Uditec or Canal +.
Baobab + is also one of the beneficiaries of the off grid Market Development Fund (OMDF). A fund financed by the Government of Madagascar with the assistance of the World Bank, aimed at accelerating access to energy in Madagascar.

Accelerating the Solar Revolution
As part of the acceleration of energy access, Baobab + has also increased its commitment by creating the mobile app Baobab + Academy. Among other things, the app offers free and playful training in different aspects of your work.
The Baobab + group is present in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and hence Madagascar. Within five years, Alexandre Coster points out that Baobab + will bring new innovations, particularly in the area of financial inclusion.
In particular, the social enterprise should introduce the pay-as-you-go (PAYG) into its pallets of services related to financial inclusion. "the PAYG allows customers to acquire an initial payment history and thus make them eligible for financial products," he explains.
