ArcelorMittal will produce solar electricity on its buildings
12,000 solar panels will be installed on the roofs of buildings. The project, which began this summer, consists of covering two buildings with an area of 13,000 m2 each. The commissioning of these solar power plants is scheduled for 2022. The total power of 4.6 MW corresponds to the equivalent of the domestic consumption of a village of around 2,700 people. The electricity produced will be sent to the RTE public network and will thus contribute to the objectives of the climate plan of the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region.
For ArcelorMittal, the implementation of this project illustrates its commitment to a responsible steel approach and testifies to its desire to implement positive actions for future generations. The site, committed to carbon neutrality like all entities of the ArcelorMittal group, already has a solar park located north of the site and operated since 2017.
Reservoir Sun becomes ArcelorMittal's partner to install, operate and maintain this new solar park. A reference in solar self-consumption in France, Reservoir Sun supports companies such as ArcelorMittal in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and develops the short circuit of energy to meet the challenges of the 21st century: preserving the environment by producing green, local and economical energy.
Work began this summer with the reinforcement of the structures of the frameworks of the buildings at 25 meters in height. The replacement of the roofs and their waterproofing is in progress: they will be able to accommodate the solar panels within several months. The two buildings hosting this project store finished products (steel coils and sheets) before shipping by rail and road (respectively 24% and 6% of site shipments in 2020). These buildings will remain in operation for the duration of the work.
Mathieu Cambet, CEO of Reservoir Sun, said: “Reservoir Sun is proud to support ArcelorMittal Méditerranée in its energy transition with this project. »
Bruno Ribo, President of ArcelorMittal Méditerranée, added: “Our company is playing its part in the transition, and relies on the expertise of Reservoir Sun, which supports us in the production of solar energy in our beautiful region. »

In 2020, ArcelorMittal had revenue of $53.3 billion and crude steel production of 71.5 million tons, while iron ore production reached 58.0 million tons.
In France, ArcelorMittal has 15,500 employees, including more than 800 researchers, spread over its 40 production sites, its distribution and service centers and its three R&D sites. ArcelorMittal produced around 8 million tonnes of liquid steel in 2020 in France. France accounts for approximately one third of ArcelorMittal's flat steel production in Europe.
About Reservoir Sun
Born from the alliance of the energy company ENGIE and GreenYellow, a major operator in the energy transition, Reservoir Sun is the benchmark player in solar electricity self-consumption for businesses and communities. Convinced that the future of energy production goes through self-consumption with flexible, decentralized, local installations located near the places of consumption, Reservoir Sun aims to use all existing land areas to transform them into a source of energy. 'green energy. The “short circuit” makes it possible to reduce both the costs of transport and those of production of solar energy, to make it accessible to all and to serve the economic development of territories and businesses. Being as close as possible to the players in the field, understanding and anticipating needs and providing tailor-made solutions are the many actions for which RESERVOIR SUN uses all its energy.
