A price of electricity linked to that of gas is "an aberration" (pannier-runacher) comments
The French Minister of Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, criticized the operation of the European energy market on Wednesday, believing that the link between electricity prices and gas prices was "an aberration".
"Having an electricity market that is connected to that of gas is a problem.Basically, it is an ecological aberration and it is an economic aberration, "said Pannier-Runacher in Brussels, on the sidelines of a meeting of European ministers in industry.
His remarks echo those of the French Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire who had asked last week to "review from top to bottom the operation of the single electricity market".Judging his "obsolete" rules, he promised to approach the subject at a meeting of finance ministers in the euro zone on October 4 in Luxembourg.
"In France, we get electricity from nuclear power plants and hydraulic energy, so we have a decarbonized energy and a very low cost, but the market (...) makes there an alignment of pricesElectricity in France on gas prices, ”he denounced, without specifying his reform tracks.
Electricity prices are blazing on the wholesale market, pulled by those of gas.

This increase in electricity "is difficult to explain to the population. It is counter-intuitive at a time when we plead for greater electrification to save tons of CO2 "and where" there is more and more renewable energies and less and less fossil energy ", saidAgnès Pannier-Runacher.
The question of nuclear was also put on the table on Wednesday by several member countries who want this technology to be recognized by the EU as a solution to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, she said."We are pleading for nuclear power to be part of the solutions accessible for all European countries," said the French minister.
The European Commission announced on September 22 that it was ready to validate "temporary measures" of the EU states in the face of the outbreak of energy prices."There are tools to which states can use immediately" to alleviate consumer energy bills, said European Commissioner Kadri Simson after a meeting of European Energy Ministers in Slovenia.
This subject must also be addressed at a summit of the heads of state and government of the EU on October 21 and 22.
